Web series- The Best Prison Story Ever told!

Image take from Google
Netflix  original series Orange is the New Black, my first thought- sounds so crappy.  I mean what the hell is meant by Orange is the new black. I told myself I’m not watching that, women in prison- clique. Then again, women in prison definitely there will be lesbians scenes, still not very appealing. After endless emails from Netflix and after months of procrastination I finally decided what is there to loose.

This series hit me, don't judge the book by its cover!
From the very first episode I was addicted; it’s one of those series you binge in one night or the weekend.
The characters are well developed in the first season, everyone story is told. Standout characters are a Russian red haired cook, a meth head, a transgender hair stylist, and an abusive prison guard. And of course there are the subset and segregation found in all prison movies or series; the blacks socialized with the blacks, white with the white, Hispanic, Latinos etc.
We entered the prison walls through main character Piper terrified eyes who is serving time for drug trafficking along with her ex girlfriend Alex. She tries not to fall into any category or cause trouble she just wanted to do her time incident free and get out of prison to go home to her boyfriend. But all her efforts to be a model prisoner landed her in endless clashes with inmates and the prison guards.
The second season brought with it more complexity, the flash back of the first season are more in depth and the humane viewpoint of how these women ended up in prison now showed their guilt and the ruthlessness of the inmates. This season is less funny and more aggressive. New characters are introduced; Piper is thrown into a new prison to testify against the drug lord she had worked for. And her true story is unfolds. Again, trying to start out of trouble; but it followed her wherever she goes. Although the show in centered on Piper, each character brings a different life to the series and their story can be followed individually. OITNB is indulging and attention grabbing; whether you are gay or straight there is a story for everyone.  It’s clever and has a sort of charisma. OITNB refrained from portraying women in prison as heinous or ornate victims; instead the stories are told in mischievous and cheerful ways, sometimes even comedic.  It’s worth watching.

Patiently waiting for season three!
